Vernaccia di San Gimignano

The Vernaccia from San Gimignano is an antique Tuscan grape of noble origins and tied closely to the antique city of San Gimignano. It is one of the most famous typical Tuscan wines, along with Chianti Classico and Chianti Riserva. The wine is a true expression of this particular territory of Tuscany, and cannot be duplicated elsewhere, since the climate and the soil governs this particular grape’s production.

Wine characteristics

The Vernaccia is noted for its light golden-hued colour, powerful and full bodied nature, heady floral bouquet, dry, crisp and persistent flavours, high levels of acidity, and light bitter almond aftertaste.

The Vernaccia of San Gimignano is a dry white wine with faint aromas and flavours of citrus, peaches with a pleasant bitter-almond finish. It is therefore, an excellent wine to accompany fish dishes. It also pairs well with vegetables and simple pastas with chick peas and pine nuts.

The Vernaccia of San Gimignano is produced in a restricted zone of Tuscany between Siena, Pisa and Florence.
